How many gods truly exist?

There are so many gods that are known in this world and even in the Bible there were other gods mentioned like Moloc, Baal, Dagon etc. but how many gods do trully exist?

The Bible says:

"Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God...Do not fear, nor be afraid; have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.'" (Isaiah 44:6-8).

" ¹⁰Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

¹¹I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. (Isaiah 43:10-11)

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!" (Deuteronomy 6:4).


Then who are the other gods that are known in our world? Who is Zeus? Who is Athena and other gods people are worshipping ? Are they really gods?

According to the Bible:


"For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens." (1 Chronicles 16:26)


"Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?" (Jeremiah 16:20)


"Woe to him who says to wood, 'Awake!' To silent stone, 'Arise! It shall teach!' Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all. But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him.'" (Habakkuk 2:19-20)


"And there you will serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell." (Deuteronomy 4:28)


"For the customs of the peoples are futile;
For one cuts a tree from the forest,
The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
They decorate it with silver and gold;
They fasten it with nails and hammers
So that it will not topple.
They are upright, like a palm tree,
And they cannot speak;
They must be carried,
Because they cannot go by themselves.
Do not be afraid of them,
For they cannot do evil,
Nor can they do any good.'" (Jeremiah 10:2-5)

"For the LORD will judge his people, and he will repent himself concerning his servants. The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; they have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths. They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them." (Psalm 135:14-18)

That's what the Bible says so that is what we Christians must believe.

The Infallible Bible

The Bible is the most famous book of all time. The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.

If the Bible is infallible then why are there so many contradictions written within it?

The Bible is a revelation of the infallible GOD but it is the understanding and interpretation of a fallible man that have contradictions.

But the bible is written by fallible men so there is a possibility there are errors written within it. Right?

GOD inspired them to write what they saw, heard or feel. Because of this some verse of the Bible seems contradicting with the other verse but it doesn't. For example Matthew 28:5 says there was one angel at the tomb after the resurrection; whereas John informs us there were two (see 20:12). But these are not contradictory reports. An infallible mathematical rule easily explains this problem: Where there are two, there is always one. Matthew did not say there was only one angel. There may also have been one angel at the tomb at one point on this confusing morning and two at another. One has to add the word "only" to Matthew's account to make it contradict John's. But if the critic comes to the texts to show they err, then the error is not in the Bible, but in the critic.

Likewise, Matthew (see 27:5) informs us that Judas hanged himself. But Luke says that "he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out" (Acts 1:18, NASB). Once more, these accounts are not mutually exclusive. If Judas hanged himself from a tree over the edge of a cliff or gully in this rocky area, and his body fell on sharp rocks below, then his entrails would gush out just as Luke vividly describes.

If there are differences on the testimony of witnesses, is it still accountable?

Yes! In one situation where there are many witnesses if their testimonies were asked and all of them are the same and unchanged the judge might think there might be a collusion. Each one of them must tell what happened according to what they really saw or think to make his testimony credible to be accounted.

Everyone should be very careful cause Satan is using this differences to deceive people. On the Gospel of Matthew the color of the robe placed on Jesus during trial is scarlet while on the Gospel of John it's purple. Satan will simply say one of them is not true. Why believe in Bible if some part of it is wrong? It's a simple logic right? But the Gospel of Matthew and John is not about the color of the robe. It's about Jesus so we should not let ourselves be deceived by Satan or other thoughts of men.

In summation, the Bible cannot err, but the critics can. There is no error in God's revelation, but there are errors in our understanding of it. Hence, when approaching Bible difficulties, it is best that: "If we are perplexed by any apparent contradiction in Scripture, it is not allowable to say, The author of this book is mistaken; but either [1] the manuscript is faulty, or [2] the translation is wrong, or [3] you have not understood."
